New Braunfels Information
New Braunfels (German for "brown rock") is a city in Texas, United States.
The population was 36,494 at the 2000 census; in 2005, it was estimated to be
47,168. It is the county seat of Comal County.
New Braunfels has a sizeable German-American community. The town holds a
German-style festival, Wurstfest ("sausage festival"), every November to
celebrate the city's German heritage.
New Braunfels draws a fair amount of tourism from across the state, particularly
because of the cold-spring rivers that run through the city. Many people visit
during the summer to tube down the Guadalupe River or Comal River. New Braunfels
is the site of one of the most famous water parks in the United States, the
Schlitterbahn WaterPark Resort.
The Gruene historical district is located within the city limits of New
Braunfels.
